Theoretical physics aims to precisely describe the fundamental laws of nature using mathematical language. It not only deepens our understanding and application of natural laws but also provides rich problems and fresh inspiration for pure mathematics, making it a core discipline of basic science.
In the summers of 2020 and 2021, the School of Physics and the Shing-Tung Yau Center of Southeast University successively held the first and second "Strings, Field Theory, and Holography" frontier summer school, which received very positive feedback from students. In August 2023, the summer school was held offline for the first time at the Sipailou Campus of Southeast University. The curriculum covered foundational topics such as integrability, scattering amplitudes, an introduction to AdS/CFT, brane and black hole solutions in string/membrane theory, dynamics of supersymmetric field theories, and the cosmological constant in spacetime, as well as advanced topics such as the Resurgence theory and scattering amplitudes in AdS/CFT.
Encouraged by Professor Shing-Tung Yau, Professor Qiang Wen served as the executive editor, working with Professor Satoshi Nawata (Fudan University), Professor Jianxin Lu (University of Science and Technology of China), Professor Wenli Yang (Northwest University), and Associate Professor Jie Gu (Southeast University) to compile part of the lecture content from this summer school. The volume was officially published by Higher Education Press in March 2026, aiming to benefit more students interested in theoretical physics research and to continue promoting the development of theoretical physics in China.
